Teaching Philosophy
As a teacher I aim to create a working ensemble where the students feel safe enough to take large risks. Working creatively in this environment also allows for cooperative learning and community building. Having a strong ensemble where the entire class is invested emotionally, physically and mentally encourages ownership of one’s own work and the group’s work as a whole.
I aim to instill practical theatre knowledge such as production and playwriting. Teaching all aspects of theatre, not just performance skills will improve their organizational skills, problem solving and analytical thinking. Not every student is an actor but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for his or her talent in the theatre classroom. Theatre embodies more than performance skills. The skills learned in a theater classroom will inspire leadership, as well as improve literacy and critical thinking skills. It is my goal to encourage each student to explore all aspects of theatre and instill a life-long passion and appreciation of the craft and experience.
